Kaula Lumpur

So we are flying from the goldcoast to malaysia!! Its a huge distance, but google map refuse to tell me the distance and the internet is slow and I'm running out of time! So it have to be a mystery

So the moment is finaly here, we are on holidays and we have left the country. We have been counting down the days for a long time now and it's hard to believe that we are in the middle of it.

We jumped on the plane and headed to Kaula Lumpur in Malaysia. We didn't now much about Malaysia more then that is a muslim country and the coast of living is expensive in compared to the the rest of south east Asia. The flight took us 8 hours, it was a long flight, without any electricity socket and with a laptop with an average of 20 minutes of battery time. It's was a little bit boring, but with an android phone a good travel pillow and of course my wonderful girlfriend made this plane trip not so bad.

So the first thing that you notice with Malaysia is that is very tropical. When the air plane is flying over Malaysia you will see PALMTREES and they are everywhere. When you leave the plan is the heat the first thing that strikes you. It's is really tropical!! On the way from the airport to the city you will see palmtrees everywhere. Everywhere you look it's green, and that's just another sign of tropical climate, it rains a lot!!

We took the bus to the city and our trip took us around 5 hours. The airport is around 100km from the city, so it's a long ride. So to reach the city center took us around 3 hours, then the bus driver told us not to jump of because the where suppose to drive us directly to the hotel. But they screw up and drives us to the other side of town, and orders everyone to jump in to minibuses to get to their final destination. But they didn't want to drive us there because we were suppose to jump of at China town where our hotel was. But we didn't give up, we argued and they agreed to drive us. But it took 2 hours, it was such a traffic jam. The funny thing was that the hotel was suppose to pick us up at the airport, but they never showed up, apparently you are suppost to call them and ask for it, even though you fill in all information about airport pickup when you book the hotel and get it confirmed in the booking, but that's how stuff work in Malaysia.

I have never seen anything like that in my life. It was cars everywhere and it's was a lot faster to walk (if you know where you are going will say...). Cars filling 5 lanes, they change lanes very aggressive, you here cars honk al the time, people is walking right in front of the cars when they crossing the street. That's how it works, people are not waiting at the crossing to get a green walk symbol.

We arrive at the hotel at last, and it's a very nice hotel, smells good, air con in the room, own bathroom, close to everything in town. We just drop of our bags at the hotel and then we head out to grab something to eat. Kaula Lumpur is a very vibrant city and there is nonstop action 24/7, it's people everywhere, in every corner you see people cooking food in the street. You have people bugging you by trying to sell you stuff all the time. The food in Kaula Lumpur was fantastic, it's was what I head wished for, I even found really nice genuine malaysian food for only 1 dollar! It's was a very nice and happy man that cooked the meal and the best part that he only gave to sticks to eat with. I really like to eat food that is not westernised, that you eat the same way and with the same flavour as the locals do.

I really love Asian food, they food is a lot healthier then western food, makes your stomach feelgir very good, and for me the taste outperform every western dish! This is like a paradise for me, I eat Asian food every day, even at breakfast!! I really like to have a meal in the morning instead of the normal western breakfast with bread, cereals etc, BUT I need coffee, I would never trade my morning coffee away for anything.

So enough about the food, how about the Malaysian people, they are not in general not that serviced minded, it's very similar to the service you get in Europe. In the best case they say hello, in some cases they don't say anything at all. I guess I'm just a little bit spoiled about the level of service you get in Australia where they always ask say hello and ask how you are and all that stuff. But the street sellers they want to SELL SELL SELL so they are highly motivated to say hello to you, but it's more of a pain when you can't look at their stuff without having a highly skilled and persisting sellsman highy determed to sell you as much as they possible can before you leave their little shop.

Over 90 procent of the population is Muslim, so almost al local girls cover their hair, but because everyone does it, it dossen't seam to bug them to much. When you living in a western society and you see muslim women they usauly looks a bit in shame over the fact that they are forced to wear this thing on their head. But here in Malaysia is as natural as wearing shoes. Malaysia is very liberal for being a muslim country and would be the best country to live in as a muslim. But they still have problem, the parlament tried to crimalise rape within the family but the premiere minister said in offical tv that he refused to do this because he stated that it's every wifes responsible to ebay their husbands desiree.

Kaula Lumpur is compared to south east asia a pretty rich and developed country, many people have their own cars, and the cars you see in the street is newer and more expensive then in Sweden for example. The buildings in the city center is amazing!! Kaula Lumpur is a very divided city, when you leave the city center you will see how old, poor made buildings replaces the new amazing ones. It's a country where you either live in a very flashy skyscrape or you live pretty basic. But this is nothing strange here in south east asia.

So next stop is Vietnam!!
